This policy explains what Teacher in the Box keeps about you, why it keeps it, and for how long. KAI is the tutor inside Teacher in the Box.
What we keep
- Your account: your name, your email address and your Google account ID, which Google shares when you sign in.
- Your conversations: the messages you send, KAI’s replies and any photos you attach.
- Your study records: the courses you start, the units taught and checked, your quiz answers and results, your study plan and streak, and the revision notes KAI writes for you.
- What you tell KAI about yourself: the name KAI calls you, your time zone, and preferences such as your goals, your level and how you like to be taught.
- Study reminders: if you turn them on, the push address your browser gives us, so reminders can reach it.
- Sign in and usage records: the browser type and IP address of each signed in session, a record of which features your account uses and when, and how much you use, counted for the usage limits.
How we use it
- To run your account and keep you signed in.
- To teach you: KAI uses your conversations, study records and preferences to pick up where you left off.
- To keep the service working, secure and fair, including the usage limits.
- To keep people safe: if a message suggests you may harm yourself, KAI answers with a helpline, and that message is kept with a flag for the team to review. Any email alert the team receives holds no message text.
We do not sell your data.
The AI model behind KAI
To write each reply, your messages, the photos you attach and the study details KAI needs are sent to an AI model hosted on Amazon Bedrock, which processes them to produce the reply.
Signing in with Google
We ask Google only for your name, your email address and your account ID. Your Google password is never shared with us.
Cookies and browser storage
Teacher in the Box uses only the cookies it needs to work:
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in.
- A security cookie that protects your account from forged requests.
- A short cookie that lasts ten minutes while you sign in with Google.
- A theme cookie that remembers light or dark mode for a year.
Your browser also remembers which reminder cards you have closed and, if you are signed out while editing Settings, your unsaved edits until you open Settings again or close that tab. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics.
How long we keep it
- Your account, conversations and study records: for as long as your account exists.
- A conversation you delete: removed from your view at once and erased for good 90 days later.
- Records of feature use: erased after 90 days.
- Sign in sessions: erased 30 days after they end.
- Safety records are kept. Each holds up to 2,000 characters of the message that raised it, and KAI's reply.
Your choices
- Change your name, the name KAI calls you and your time zone in Settings.
- Delete any conversation from the chat.
- Stop study reminders at any time.
- Delete your account from Settings.
- For any question about your data, write to contact@teacherinthebox.com from the email address you sign in with.
